PediaBuzz.click The United States has more people in prisons than any other country on Earth. With more than 2.2 million people currently incarcerated, it is interesting to take a moment to think about what life in prison may be like for them.
One reality is that it is mandated by UN Guidelines that you are only required to breathe fresh air for one hour a day. This guideline also extends to making sure that you are getting a space in which you can do suitable exercise.
This may not sound like a lot of time, and I don’t know if you know this, but fresh air rocks! One group of people who may not know that is, unfortunately, children in the United Kingdom.
A study done in the UK found that children aged 5 to 12 are playing outdoors for less than 30 minutes per day. As you can imagine with technology continuing to advance, children are spending more and more time inside and in front of a screen. When you consider that watching television or playing on an iPad for an hour is equivalent to the amount of time that child may be outside in two days, it makes you want to reevaluate how you breakdown your child’s day.
I imagine if you got sent to jail right now, one of the biggest shocks that you may find yourself facing would be the lack of technology. After all, I’m not too sure many people are going to be able to send you a Snapchat story or tag you on Instagram from your prison cell. So, perhaps it is not a shock to consider how these children are spending their days.
We can only hope that technology will start to move in ways that encourage people to become active and embrace nature, instead of experiencing it through a television screen or tablet.
